The ethics of caring, health, healing and love
The medical ethics espoused in the west
Tell only one side of the story, at best.
They standardize dogmas from which they then draw
The “principles,” “knowledge,” “shoulds,” “rights,” “rules,” and “law.”
These practical ethics are pertinent too--
In times of great stress they’ll direct what to do.
But equally true is the less-referenced side,
The one that reveres our own HEART, as the guide.
The heart holds within it, intuitive facts,
That head-centered thinking inherently lacks.
It knows how to empathize, care, and forgive,
Supporting one’s life so it’s long and well-lived.
The heart can direct any doctor to show
How patients themselves can intrinsically know
What treats their condition, or what they desire
And prompt them to question, ask, probe and inquire.
The heart directs patients and healers the same
(assuming the glorified "mind" we can tame.)
The guide to achieving both healing and health?
This heart which empowers a strong sense of self!
The heart guides compassion, which all of us need
But, practical ethics guide how to proceed.
And if we’re to cure all the ills that abound
We’ll need to seek treatments that we’ve not yet found.
Perhaps our first step then is blending these sides,
So new information, and truths, can arise.
When holding both sides such that new truths emerge,
Once differing viewpoints will blend, and converge.
Now, all views are needed, none’s “best” and none’s “worst”
No hierarchy deems one perspective come first…
But these facets AS ONE are indicative of
The ethics of caring, health, healing and love.
